About Us

  • TRIO Student Support Services at Iowa State University serves 250 low-income, first-generation students and/or students with disabilities each year with the goal of increasing persistence and graduation rates of these students. TRIO Student Support Services is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • TRIO Student Support Services is a program that provides a variety of individualized services to our participants. We also develop initiatives and programming that are customized to the needs of our target population. Our students develop academic, social, and professional skills that contribute to a holistic educational experience at ISU and remain transferrable beyond graduation.
  • The following areas characterize the program's services:

Academic Support

  • Encourage participants to become independent and successful learners through advising, tutoring, and workshops.

Career Exploration

  • Prepare participants for life after graduation through career counseling and guidance.

Financial Literacy

  • Connect students to financial resources to support degree completion and personal financial success.

Community

  • Cultivate a community of care through events, workshops, and access to the office space.

“SSSP provides me with a safe and comfortable environment where I can go to study in between classes and work. When I have an exam or I just want to do homework in a quiet area I know that I can go to one of the study rooms in SSSP. Whenever I am having a problem I know that the staff in SSSP is there to support me in my time of need. …  SSSP has affected my life positively and I will never forget what SSSP has done for me.”
